We have a long and successful history of engaging with local schools and enjoy welcoming pupils to our libraries. We offer a Researching your topic session which is free and available all year round (subject to staff and room availability), except during September and October as this is a very busy time for us. The session is ideal for pupils studying for their EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), lasts approx. 60 min and the maximum number of pupils we can accommodate is 20. This session can be booked through libraryvisits@northampton.ac.uk and includes:

  • Guided tour
  • Introduction to the library’s print collections via the library catalogue
  • Smart searching in Google
  • Introduction to free resources on the Skills Hub
  • Google Scholar
  • Access to Research

If you would prefer a more in-depth and tailored session covering the above but with the addition of introductions to referencing, critical thinking and resource evaluation, for example, then please contact libraryvisits@northampton.ac.uk to discuss your requirements. Please note that such sessions are only available during the Summer Term.

School pupils can apply for a one year free Associate Membership, allowing them to borrow up to 5 books (normal or week loan), or DVDs. They will need to complete a school membership application form which will require a counter signature by a member of staff from their school.

Please note: Due to licence restrictions, pupils will not be able to access The University of Northampton’s electronic resources (such as online journals and electronic books), nor will they be able to make use of our photocopiers/printers.
