Q. How do I create annotations with "New Box View"?

Answer

The New Box View replaces the previous Crocodoc tool on NILE, which allows instructors to add annotations on student work submitted to a Blackboard assignment. This does not affect Turnitin assignments and is an optional tool when marking Blackboard assignments.

Below is a brief tour of the New Box View from a tutor perspective:

How to add a 'Point' comment

  1. Click the speech bubble icon in the top right to enter comment mode
  2. Click on the document area you would like to comment on
  3. Enter your comment in the box
  4. Use the Post button to save your comment

How to add a 'Highlight' comment

  1. Click and drag over the text you would like to comment on
  2. Choose the speech bubble icon that appears
  3. Enter your comment in the box
  4. Use the Post button to save your comment

Important notes:

  • If the student submission does not immediately appear and a download button is shown instead, refresh the browser page.
    • If you continue to experience issues with the view, please use a Chrome or Firefox browser.
  • Comments are saved by using the Post button, but remember to use the Submit button to save grades and overall feedback. Students will not see their inline comments until you have done so.
  • Comments can be deleted by clicking on the blue comment icon, then the bin icon.
  • A copy of the submitted assignment can be downloaded by clicking the downward arrow icon in the top right corner. The downloaded file will not include any comments that you have added in the New Box View.
  • New Box View does not have a drawing option or a strikethrough option for comments.
