Q. How do I add a spellchecker to NILE or Turnitin?

Answer

Neither NILE (Blackboard) or Turnitin have a spell checker tool. 

However, as both work within a browser, it is possible to enable the spell checker within your browser or install other tools such as Grammarly

To adjust the spell check settings in Chrome, please follow the instructions below:

1. Select the Menu button (3 horizontal lines) in the upper right corner.

2. Click the Settings link.

3. Click the "Advanced" dropdown arrow at the bottom.

4. Under the Language section, select Spell check.

5. Use the toggles to enable spell checking for the selected language.

6. Customize your spelling dictionary further by clicking Custom spelling.

7. Add new words to your dictionary, clicking the ADD WORD button after typing in each word.

 

To adjust the spell check settings in Firefox, please follow the instructions below:

1. Select the Menu button (3 horizontal lines) in the upper right corner.

2. Select Options.


3. Select Advanced and open the General tab.

4. Click Check my spelling as I type.


5. Click OK to close the Options window.
 

To adjust the spell check settings in Internet Explorer, please follow the instructions below:

1. Press the Alt key to display the menu bar.

2. Click Tools, then select Manage add-ons.

3. Select Spelling Correction from the list of ‘Add-on Types’.

4. Check the box to Enable spelling correctionthen click Done.
