Q. How do I join a virtual classroom (Collaborate session)?



Learning Technologist Iain Griffin describes how to join a Collaborate Ultra Session.


To access the virtual classroom you must use a laptop or desktop PC that has a Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge browser installed.  We recommend you use Chrome, as this is the only browser which allows users to be presenters. You will also need access to a good quality internet signal. 

To join a session click the Title (link) of the classroom to open a session in a new browser window*.

Once you are logged in you should be able to converse with others who have shared their cameras and microphones by clicking the microphone or camera icons at the bottom of the window**. 

Once you have joined a room you may be asked to comment via the chat box or raise a hand before opening your microphone to make a point.

If at any point during your session you are removed from the room or find the quality of sound or video deteriorates this may be an indication of a poor internet connection***

* If you are unable to join the session then you may wish to refresh the NILE window or try another browser. 

**If you have more than one option for your microphone or camera you can click change the settings for these within the pink button area in the bottom right of the window.

*** If you have a poor wifi connection you may wish to relocate so you are closer to the router, or change to a wired internet connection.
